Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (TN&MT) Tran Hong Ha said that in 2019, 100% of industrial parks (IPs) and export processing zones (EPZs) in operation must have centralized wastewater treatment systems.
With the promotion of the control of projects, large waste sources, risks of active environmental incidents in approach to information and waste control … up to now, there are 228/283 IPs nationwide. activities with centralized wastewater treatment system, accounting for 88%; in which, 121 industrial parks have invested in installing automatic wastewater monitoring equipment, continuously reaching over 42%.
In addition, the authorities also completed thorough handling of 233/366 serious environmental pollution areas, an increase of 62 areas compared to 2016; the rate of domestic wastewater collected and treated reaches 12%, an increase of 5% compared to the 2011-2015 period; the rate of solid waste reached 85.5% (this figure was 82% in 2010, approximately 85% in 2015); 118 hazardous waste treatment facilities are licensed by Natural Resources and Environment with a processing capacity of about 1,500 thousand tons/year, an increase of 5 bases compared to 2017; handling more than 60 polluted pollutants due to plant protection chemicals, new discoveries and strict control over 400 environmental areas polluted by residual plant protection chemicals; identify the list of 160 craft villages at risk of environmental pollution and serious environmental pollution.
In 2018, many localities have implemented recycling models for domestic waste such as Hanoi, Bac Giang, Ben Tre, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Ninh Thuan, Phu Tho, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai. According to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, with the quick handling of environmental hot spots, there is a consensus and support of the community and public opinion.
In order to continue to control the environment in IPs, EPZs, Minister Tran Hong Ha requested, in 2019, all IPs and EPZs are operating with centralized wastewater treatment systems; complete construction and promulgate standards and technical regulations about the environment as advanced countries in the world.
